I’ve lived in the Atlanta area since 1991 and moved here in time to see that incredible Braves World Series!
The move to Barrow in 2006 was a welcome one, and I was blessed to teach 4 years at Yargo Elementary and 4 years at County Line.
For the first time in my education career I was able to watch students I’d taught in elementary rise all the way through to graduating high school, and I cannot put into words what that meant.
I have a special connection to ladybugs (another story for another time).
That first group of 4th graders heard the story and never forgot it…I still get pictures of them from time to time from past students and parents, saying they saw the ladybug and thought of me.
That humbles me even to this day.
Q: Please tell us a little bit about your family.
I’m married to Dave, the boy I first had a crush on at age 7…our lives brought us together 14 years ago in marriage, and I’m proud mother to Ben (24) and David (23).
Q: Please tell us about your current, past, or future career. What do you love most about what you do?
Currently I am blessed to be a connector between residents and our local businesses…I absolutely love hearing peoples’ stories and finding out why they chose Winder!
It’s been my home for nearly 16 years now, and meeting folks both “seasoned” and new to our amazing town is truly something I cherish.
Q: What advice would you give to people?
Oh my goodness, what a great question! For me, it’s all about trust and faith…believe with all your heart in what you feel led to do in this life.
Doubt and fear can’t live in the same space with trust and faith. 🙂
Q: Where do you see yourself in 5 to 10 years?
I see Dave and me still calling Barrow home, and Winder Living (our community outreach project) thriving! I just love it here and this is home base for us! 🙂
Q: (Even for friends or family), what is something interesting that most people don’t know about you?
I am an avid car dancer!
100 percent child of the 80s here, and I will jam at stoplights (yes, I’ve gotten some strange looks but mostly a lot of thumb ups)!
Q: What is something on your bucket list?
My husband has been a Formula 1 racing fan for some time and I would dearly LOVE to attend the race in Monaco…it’s just gorgeous!
Q: What would you rate a 10 out of 10?
We were blessed to go on a family trip to Idaho by car last summer and on the way back, we took the long way and drove through the Arches Park in Moab, Utah.
It was just stunning and right before we left, Dave found a live ladybug on our car. Needless to say, Moab remains very special to me.
Q: Who inspires you to be better?
I draw inspiration from many different sources, and in the end, it rests with me making the choice to be 1% better every day.
Q: If you could choose anyone that is alive today where locally would y’all meet for this lunch?
I would choose Jeff Olson. He is the author of one of my favorite books, The Slight Edge, and he has been a mentor of mine over the last 9 years.
Bistro off Broad would be my choice for this lunch as I know they have several things he likes on the menu!
Q: What are a couple of your favorite restaurants in our community?
Señor Tequila and Bistro Off Broad are two favorites…I also love the Lobby at the Maddox because it’s a great place to have meetings and enjoy great coffee!
Q: How long have you lived or worked in our community?
This summer will be 16 years I’ve lived in Winder…I’ve loved seeing it grow and progress over that time.
Q: Who is the most interesting person you’ve met here in our community?
Hands down…Miss Carol Ann Grealish, our very own Happy Hooker! She is PHENOMENAL and where else can you find a legal Happy Hooker?
We are so blessed to have them in our community and what a great name for a fish, bait and tackle place?
Q: What current or former local business makes you the most nostalgic about our community?
There’s something about our Chamber of Commerce being located at the train depot that just makes me smile every time I drive into town…crossing the tracks coming into downtown Winder and seeing it there is like a welcome to our town.
Q: What is your favorite thing or something unique about our community?
The people…their stories, their experiences here…I honestly learn something new every day and it makes me all the more proud to be in Barrow!
Q: Finally, what 3 words or phrases come to mind when you think of the word HOME?
Love, family, happiness.
